Nancy Dowd is a screenwriter who wrote the script for the 1977 film Slap Shot.

Personal lifeEdit

Dowd was born in Massachusetts in 1945 and is the sister of Ned Dowd.

Film careerEdit

She wrote the script for Slap Shot and loosely based it on her brother and his minor league hockey team, the Johnstown Jets. She also wrote the story for the 1978 film Coming Home, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

She is often mistaken for having a bit part in Slap Shot. But the actress in the film is actually her sister-in-law, Nancy N. Dowd (Ned Dowd's wife). The middle initial was used in the credits to differentiate between the two.[1]

The following is a selected filmography.

  • Coming Home (1978)
  • Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains (1982)
